Salone del Mobile
For a number of years, the company Blok Plaatmateriaal has been going to the Salone del Mobile which is held annually in Milan. In 2022, Blok participated in the event as well and has created a beautiful presentation in cooperation with designer Carina Riezebos. For this year’s edition of the Salone del Mobile, Carina has designed “Pieces for Conversation”, an installation that was shown at Masterly – The Dutch in Milano.
In order to promote the company and its materials, I was allowed to design several graphics. I made several A5 cards, including the one shown on the right. The back contains information about the room created by Carina, and the front features an illustration I made. For this illustration, I used the room itself as inspiration. The rose window that is shown on the card returns in the room itself, so I wanted to use that as a recognisable feature. To create a real religious atmosphere and fill the void, I also created a frame illustration and placed the rose window in it. Instead of using plain colours, I imported the photos of the materials used into the illustration to make it look as real as possible. This card was finally printed and taken to the event in Milan as promotion for Blok Plaatmateriaal, so that people from all over the world could look at it, read it and take it with them.
I have used the image of the rose window for several designs.
